Xbox 360 3 Red Lights - Experts Reveal the Do-It-Yourself Secrets
No serious XBox 360 gaming enthusiast would question both the popularity and the superior features and games that come along with the X360. Since the launch of the first XBox model several years ago, Microsoft's gaming platform has improved over the years and a slew of great games have been released every year. However, all is not perfect in XBox 360 gaming circles. Since the release of the initial model of the X360, the gaming unit has been plagued by what has become commonly known as the "Xbox 360 3 Red Lights" problem (aka "the Red Ring of Death"). Basically, you know you have been struck by this problem when your gamin comes to a sudden halt and you see 3 of the 4 lights on the front of the general processing unit (GPU) turn red and start flashing.
What this means is that there has been a hardware failure inside the xBox 360. In the case of the 3 red lights, this usually means that there has been overheating inside the GPU to the point where either some of the hardware components have been damaged and/or the solder joints have softened to the point where they have lost connectivity with key components. In either case, you need to get your X360 cooled down to know whether the damage is permanent or not. If you turn the XBox off for an hour or so, then power it back up and still see the 3 flashing red lights, you are probably going to have to either send you XBox 360 out for repair or go the Do-It-Yourself route.
Repairing the 360 yourself is not as daunting a task as it may at first seem. There are several step-by-step guides available for download on the Internet that take you through the repair process step-by-step (most even include videos which make things "brain-dead" simple). The huge advantage of going the do it yourself route for the XBox 360 3 Red Lights problem is that you can be back up and playing your favorite game in about an hour or so.
Good luck and happy gaming!
