Fix Your xBox 360 "Red Ring of Death" in about an hour. Our Top Fix-it Guide Pick...

Chris Jones is the author of this popular repair guide. When you read it it's clear that he knows what he's talking about. He takes you step-by-step through the same repair process he uses when he repairs X360's. What impressed us about this package is that Chris has taken the time to include a video of the repair process. This helps immensely. The ebook has plenty of pictures too. He uses simple everyday tools and also gives you a bit of background about "why" the problem occurs in the first place. You may or may not care about the "why" but for me, it added a lot to his credibility.

Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Repair - More Preventative Measures

red ring of death As any XBox 360 gaming enthusiast will tell you, the sight of those 3 flashing red lights on the front of their xbox console can ruin your day very quickly. Your game freezes up, and unless you are one of the lucky few where powering the unit and then back on somehow clears the problem, your game playing is most likely over for a while.

If you haven't yet experienced the XBox 360 3 red lights problem, good for you. Here are some tips you can use so that you may never have to go through a "Red Ring of Death" repair yourself.

First of all, the 3 red lights problem is primarily an overheating problem inside the general processing unit (GPU), which most people just call the xbox console. All of the specialized graphics chips inside the xbox, the chips that produce the spectacularly realistic video you see during your game, use a lot of processing power and therefore a lot of electricity. And electrical activity produces heat. In the case of the XBox 360, a lot of heat. The only cooling built into the XBox are ventilation holes cut into the console. I suppose what the engineers were relying on was the fact that hot air rises and would be replaced by cooler air, thereby cooling the GPU.

Unfortunately, in hindsight, there are 2 problems with this cooling design. First, the graphics chips produced far more heat than the simple ventilation holes could dissipate during heavy game play. Why the design engineers did not forsee this can be the topic of a whole new article. The second problem is that many people put their XBoxes inside of entertainment consoles or other enclosed areas so that even the heat that was generated had nowhere to do. Even something as simple as putting the XBox unit on deep carpeting could dramatically reduce the cooling capacity of the ventilation holes.

So with that as background information, here are some tips to help prevent you from experiencing the 3 red lights problem on your xbox:

First, don't put your XBox inside of an enclosed are like an entertainment console. Keep it out in the open and give it as much room to "breath" as possible. Taking just this simple step will maximize the cooling that the ventilation holes do provide which may be enough to keep the 3 red lights problem at bay.

Second, Now that you have your XBox 360 unit out of your entertainment console, either put it on end (vertically), or even better, put it on a flat surface like a piece of wood rather than directly on the carpeting. Again, this will allow the ventilation holes the most opportunity to cool down the inside of the GPU.

Lastly, try to avoid heavy game play for extended periods of time. I know, that me be asking too much, but believe me, if it helps to avoid getting the dreaded "Red Ring of Death", it is well worth it. By shortening your gaming sessions you don't allow the inside of the GPU to get as hot as it normally would through extended game play and that might be just enough to avoid damaging any internal components of your XBox.

I hope these tips work for you. If not, there are several XBox 360 3 red light repair guides on the market that will take you step-by-step through the repair process of getting rid of the 3 red lights permanently.
